Gifting features

Gifting on Cratejoy has great features for both sellers and customers including:

  • Subscription products and one-time products can be gifted.
  • Capture gift recipient’s full name, e-mail and personalized gift message on checkout.
  • Customers can indicate the reason why they're canceling as "Purchased as a gift," which helps track churn.
  • Gift recipient is exportable via the Subscription and Shipment Exports. 
  • View gift recipient information in the Order Details page.

Gifting notifications: Storefront and Marketplace

Storefront Notifications

You can set up notifications to send to gift recipients when their shipment is marked as shipped. 

Notifications are found by clicking Settings then Notifications and scroll to Gift Notifications. Here you can toggle notifications on or off. Notifications can be edited like other Storefront notifications. 

Available notifications include:

  • Sender Gift Renewal Reminder
  • Initial Gift Shipped

Marketplace notifications 

When the gift is purchased on the Marketplace, Cratejoy sends the notification to the gift recipient after the gift subscription has been marked as shipped. Gift notifications for Marketplace gift subscriptions are not able to be edited by default.

Gift information in exports

Gift recipient information is viewable in several exports including:

  • One-Time Order Export
  • Shipments Export
  • Subscriptions Export
  • All Transactions

The gifting-specific fields that are exported include:

  • is_gift
  • gift_message
  • gift_recipient_name
  • gift_recipient email

If needed, this information can be exported to third-party applications and sites (i.e.: MailChimp).

Gift renewal settings

Upon purchase, the gift giver selects whether or not the gift renews. If the gift giver wants to change this whether or not a gift subscription renews, you can do this by toggling on or off the button under Renewal Type. This is found on the Subscription page for the specific gift subscription. This option is visible in the Gift Information box on the subscription.

How gifting works with MailChimp

Cratjoy sends the gift recipient metadata with MailChimp Interest groups. With this, you'll be able to create customized MailChimp email campaigns for your gift recipients. This data can be located in any MailChimp list connected to Cratejoy, by navigating to Manage Contacts, then Groups. 

The information being sent includes: 

  • Gift Recipient First & Last Name
  • Gift Recipient Email

Gifting 1.0

Gifting 1.0 was previously available on Cratejoy, but is no longer offered. However, some sellers remain on this system so the information before is for those sellers who have not transitioned off of gifting 1.0. It is not possible to switch onto gifting 1.0. 

Please note that gifting 1.0 does not work on the marketplace
